What is Commercial ACS?

Commercial ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) provides a recognised way for experienced gas engineers to demonstrate their competence to work on specific types of non-domestic gas appliances, installations and systems.

Commercial gas work can involve larger appliances, pipework, heating systems and more complex installation environments than those typically found in domestic properties.

As a result, engineers need the appropriate commercial competencies for the work they undertake.

Our Commercial ACS package combines core commercial gas safety, commercial pipework installation and two commercial heating appliance categories into one 5-day programme.

The package includes:

  • COCN1 - Core Commercial Gas Safety

  • ICPN1 - Installation First Fix of Commercial Pipework

  • CIGA1 - Commercial Indirect-Fired Heating Appliances

  • CORT1 - Commercial Overhead Radiant Heaters

  • TPCP1A - Testing & Purging of Commercial Pipework not exceeding 1m³ in volume and 21 mbar operating pressure.

What's included in the Commercial ACS Package?

COCN1 – Core Commercial Gas Safety

COCN1 is the Core Commercial Gas Safety assessment and provides the fundamental commercial gas safety competency required before undertaking many other commercial ACS categories.

The assessment covers the principles and practices required for safe work on commercial gas installations, including relevant gas safety requirements, appliance operation, controls, flueing, ventilation and unsafe situations.

COCN1 provides the core competency from which additional commercial ACS categories can be undertaken.

ICPN1 – Installation First Fix of Commercial Pipework

ICPN1 covers the installation of commercial gas pipework at first-fix stage.

This competency is relevant to engineers involved in installing commercial gas pipework as part of non-domestic gas installations.

ICPN1 is a specific pipework installation competency. Additional ACS categories, such as TPCP1 or TPCP1A, cover testing and purging of commercial installation pipework and are not included in this package.

CIGA1 – Commercial Indirect-Fired Heating Appliances

CIGA1 covers the installation, commissioning, servicing, repair and breakdown of commercial indirect-fired heating appliances and equipment.

This competency is particularly relevant to engineers working with commercial heating plant, including indirect-fired commercial boilers and associated heating equipment.

CIGA1 is one of the principal commercial heating ACS categories available alongside other categories such as direct-fired appliances and overhead radiant heaters.

CORT1 – Commercial Overhead Radiant Heaters

CORT1 covers the installation, commissioning, servicing, repair and breakdown of gas-fired commercial overhead luminous radiant plaque and radiant tube heaters.

These heating systems are commonly used to provide space heating in larger commercial and industrial environments, including warehouses, workshops and other high-ceiling buildings.

CORT1 is a commercial heating competency and should not be confused with commercial catering ACS categories.

TPCP1A – Testing & Purging of Commercial Pipework

TPCP1A covers the testing and purging of commercial pipework not exceeding 1m³ in volume and 21 mbar operating pressure.

This competency is an important part of the package for engineers undertaking relevant commercial gas pipework work and provides the assessment route for testing and purging within the specified limits.

Who is this Commercial ACS course for?

This Commercial ACS course is primarily designed for experienced gas engineers who are looking to renew their existing Commercial ACS qualifications.

The package is suitable for engineers who:

  • Currently hold the relevant Commercial ACS qualifications and need to renew them
  • Have previously held these Commercial ACS qualifications but allowed them to expire
  • Need to renew their commercial gas competencies to continue undertaking relevant commercial gas work
  • Work on commercial heating systems, appliances or gas pipework
  • Want to maintain or extend their scope of commercial gas work
  • Require the relevant ACS categories for their role or employer

Has your Commercial ACS qualification expired?

If you previously held the relevant Commercial ACS qualification but it expired more than 12 months ago, you can still complete the same five-category package.

However, because your previous qualification has been expired for more than 12 months, you will need to undertake the initial training route rather than a renewal assessment.

The same Commercial ACS package is available, with an additional £300 + VAT initial training fee.

Renewal package: £1,090 + VAT
Initial training for qualifications expired over 12 months: £1,390 + VAT

If you are unsure which route applies to you, contact our training team before booking and we can confirm your requirements.

What will I learn?

The course combines commercial gas theory, practical knowledge and assessment preparation relevant to the four ACS categories included in the package.

Topics covered can include:

  • Commercial gas safety
  • Gas legislation, regulations and industry requirements
  • Commercial appliance operation
  • Gas safety devices and controls
