The AI Leadership Apprenticeship Units are three Level 5 programmes that help leaders develop the knowledge and practical skills to successfully plan, adopt and lead artificial intelligence within their organisations. Together, they cover AI strategy, governance, procurement, implementation and organisational transformation.
The programme consists of AI Strategy & Opportunity (AU0009), AI Adoption, Procurement & Governance (AU0010), and AI Delivery & Organisational Transformation (AU0011).
These units are designed for professionals aged 19 or over who have responsibility for leading digital change, innovation or AI within their organisation.
No. These programmes are designed for business leaders rather than AI developers. The focus is on understanding AI, identifying opportunities, making informed decisions, managing risks and leading organisational change—not programming.
You will learn to identify AI opportunities, develop business cases, align AI with organisational objectives, assess risks and create an AI roadmap.
You will learn to procure AI solutions, evaluate suppliers, establish governance, manage legal and ethical requirements, and support responsible AI adoption.
You will learn to lead AI implementation, manage organisational change, monitor AI performance, build workforce capability and embed AI across the organisation.
The units are delivered through online workshops, guided learning, workplace activities and one-to-one support.
Each unit requires a minimum of 30 guided learning hours, typically delivered over four intensive training days alongside workplace activities.
Assessment is through a portfolio of workplace evidence followed by a professional discussion. There are no traditional written exams.
Eligible employers can access funding through the Growth & Skills Levy, while many non-levy employers may qualify for government co-investment.
Learners receive tutor support, assessment guidance, portfolio coaching and workplace application support throughout the programme.
Together the units develop skills in AI strategy, governance, procurement, implementation, transformation and responsible AI leadership.
The units support progression into senior AI, digital transformation and strategic leadership roles, as well as further professional development.
