What is the Domestic ACS Assessment Package?

The Domestic ACS Assessment Package is the industry-recognised qualification required for gas engineers to work legally and safely on domestic gas appliances and systems in the UK.

ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) qualifications demonstrate that you have the knowledge and practical competence needed to meet current gas safety standards.

To carry out gas work legally in the UK, engineers must:

  • Hold valid Domestic ACS gas qualifications
  • Be registered with the Gas Safe Register

Our Domestic ACS refresher training and assessment package covers CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1, MET1 and essential areas of gas safety and compliance, including:

  • Gas Safety regulations and industry standards
  • Combustion principles
  • Ventilation requirements
  • Gas pipework installation and testing

Following the training programme, which includes a comprehensive Domestic Gas Manual, candidates complete both practical and theoretical ACS assessments to demonstrate their competency.

Upon successful completion, you'll gain the ACS qualifications required to join or renew your registration with the Gas Safe Register, enabling you to continue working legally as a gas engineer in the UK.

Who needs ACS Reassessment?

ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) reassessment is required for several types of gas engineers to ensure you remain competent, up to date with current regulations, and eligible for Gas Safe registration.

Existing Gas Safe engineers

Engineers who are currently registered with the Gas Safe Register must maintain valid ACS qualifications for the categories of gas work they undertake. Reassessment helps confirm ongoing competence and knowledge of the latest industry standards, legislation, and safety requirements.

ACS renewals every 5 years

ACS qualifications are not valid indefinitely. Most ACS certificates must be renewed every five years through reassessment. This process ensures you remain current with changing regulations, technologies, and best practices across domestic and commercial gas work.

Engineers returning to the industry

Engineers who've been away from the gas industry for an extended period may need ACS reassessment before returning to gas work. Reassessment demonstrates that your skills and knowledge meet current industry requirements and helps ensure you can work safely and compliantly.

Lapsed ACS candidates

If your ACS qualifications have expired, you may need to complete reassessment to regain certification. This can depend on how long your qualifications have been lapsed and your recent experience. Taking action before they expire can help avoid additional training.

Why ACS Reassessment Matters

Regular reassessment protects public safety, supports professional standards, and helps you maintain your eligibility for gas-related work. It provides reassurance to employers, customers, and regulatory bodies that you continue to meet recognised competency standards.
