Skills Bootcamps

Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible, government-funded training courses, usually lasting up to 16 weeks, designed to help adults gain in-demand skills and progress into a new job, role, or apprenticeship.

They are for adults aged 19+ who want to:

• change career
• upskill in their current job
• return to work
• gain practical, job-ready skills

They are open to employed, unemployed and self-employed learners.

Yes, for most learners. If you’re employed and your employer is putting you on the course, they may have to pay a contribution. But for individual learners, they are fully funded providing you meet the eligibility criteria.

Our Skills Bootcamps are available in areas with high employer demand, including:

• Digital (coding, data, cyber)
• Green skills (EV maintenance, heat pumps)
• HR and Learning & Development (L&D)
• Working on the London Underground
• Early years careers
• Traffic management

Usually no. Many Bootcamps are beginner-friendly. Some technical areas (e.g. advanced digital) may require basic prior knowledge or an aptitude test.

Every Skills Bootcamp guarantees:

• a job interview, or
• a guaranteed offer of progression (e.g. apprenticeship interview, or new responsibilities in your current role)

You will also receive an accredited qualification recognised by employers on completion.

Many learners do progress into work, but a job isn’t guaranteed. The Bootcamp gives you skills, support and an interview opportunity. Success depends on your performance and the employer.

To enrol on a Skills Bootcamp, you’ll need to:

• be 19 or over
• have the right to work in the UK
• live in England and be a local resident in the area the bootcamp is being delivered
• not be enrolled on another government-funded course at the same time
• commit to the full programme

Some Skills Bootcamps may have extra requirements depending on the subject.

Yes. Many are part-time or flexible with evening or online sessions. Some are full-time and require daytime attendance, depending on the subject.
