The AI Implementation, Sustainability & Risk Management Apprenticeship Unit (AU0011) is designed for existing employees in leadership roles who have oversight of AI use.

It's a 4-day, Level 5 programme that's relevant for those who need upskilling in the safe and effective delivery of AI-enabled organisational transformation, and teaches how to make sure AI solutions are integrated effectively.

Learners should be:

  • Aged 19+

  • Currently employed

What is taught on the programme?

By completing the AI Implementation, Sustainability & Risk Management apprenticeship unit, learners will develop the capability to:

  • Lead the delivery of AI-enabled organisational change.
  • Assess and manage workforce impacts of AI adoption.
  • Implement organisational level AI risk management.
  • Achieve audit requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor performance and risks of deployed AI systems.
  • Communicate AI risks and opportunities internally and externally.

Knowledge & Skills Gained

During this Apprenticeship Unit, your employee will learn how to:

  • Identify organisational improvements and opportunities for innovation and growth, using qualitative and quantitative analysis of information and data.
  • Set strategic direction for AI and gain support for it from key stakeholders.
  • Commission analysis to identify if AI adoption is viable. Evaluate assessments of risks and unintended consequences of AI automation projects, such as the impact on job roles.
  • Use evidence to inform governance of AI adoption, outcomes and facilitate improvement.
  • Ensure sustainable and efficient AI and automation solutions.
  • Ensure business needs are aligned with technical capabilities.
  • Apply principles relating to ethics and values-based leadership and governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead and respond in a crisis situation using risk management techniques.
  • Use project management principles, techniques and tools to support the development of clear, balanced AI communications and briefings.
  • Lead deployment of AI and automation strategies, including measures to deal with the impact of automation.
  • Present and communicate information, including the translation of technical concepts into accessible materials to support clear dialogue with stakeholders.

 

Apprenticeship Unit Funding: How it works

A full breakdown of how apprenticeship units are funded is available below, specific to both Levy and Non-Levy paying employers.

Levy Employer:

  • Fully funded directly from your Digital Apprenticeship Service (DAS) account, subject to available funds.

Levy Employer with insufficient funds / co-investment:

  • 95% is funded by government co-investment, you agree to pay a mandatory 5% cash contribution.

Non-Levy Employer:

  • Fully funded using your reservation made via the Government's apprenticeship service website.

  • Daily applied activities

  • Scenario-based simulations

  • Crisis and governance exercises

Curriculum Sequencing:

  • Day 1: Strategy → organisational readiness
  • Day 2: Deployment → project and change management
  • Day 3: Governance → risk → crisis response
  • Day 4: Sustainability → fairness → optimisation
Learning Timeline:

Progression routes

On completion, learners may progress into or strengthen roles such as:

    • Senior manager or director with AI accountability
    • Transformation, digital or operations leader
    • Responsible AI, governance or risk sponsor
    • Programme or portfolio sponsor for AI initiatives

The unit also supports progression to Level 6 digital or data apprenticeships, or further executive AI development.
