About the company:
Our client is a leading Building Services company based in London, delivering high-quality mechanical, electrical, and public health engineering solutions. Their Technical Services & Innovation department drives the digital backbone of the business — from bespoke internal tools and system integrations to data flows, automation, and AI-powered solutions.
Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Digital Systems Engineer to join their Technology Services & Innovation team. This is a hands-on development and systems role in which you will work closely with the Technical Services & Innovation Director to build, maintain, and improve the internal digital systems that power the company's operations.
This is not a traditional software development role — it sits at the intersection of coding, systems integration, automation, and process design. You will be expected to contribute meaningfully from day one, taking ownership of real projects across a broad and modern technology stack. You will play a key role in expanding the company's digital capability and reducing operational dependence on single points of knowledge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain internal web-based tools and business applications using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, jQuery, and Python
- Build and maintain API integrations between internal and third-party platforms and services
- Manage and query relational databases, producing reports and supporting data-driven decision-making (SQL)
- Design intuitive, user-friendly interfaces for internal tools and dashboards (UI/UX)
- Develop and manage cloud infrastructure and serverless functions using AWS (Lambda, Cognito, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB) and Microsoft Azure
- Maintain version control, code quality, and collaborative development practices using GitHub
- Administer and integrate Google Workspace tools across the business
- Identify and implement AI integrations and intelligent automations to improve business processes
- Document systems, architectures, data flows, and dependencies to build institutional knowledge
- Lead and contribute to process redesign and simplification initiatives across departments
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions
Technologies & Skills:
You will be expected to have solid working experience across several of these, and the capability to develop quickly across the rest:
- Languages & Markup: JavaScript, HTML, CSS, jQuery, Python, SQL
- API & Integrations: RESTful API design and consumption, third-party system integrations, webhooks
- Cloud Platforms: Amazon Web Services (AWS — Lambda, Cognito, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB), Microsoft Azure
- Version Control: GitHub (branching, pull requests, collaborative workflows)
- Productivity & Automation: Google Workspace (Apps Script, Sheets, Drive, Gmail integrations)
- Design: UI/UX design principles; responsive, mobile-first layout
- AI & Automation: AI-assisted development, workflow automation tools, intelligent integrations
About You:
We want someone who can hit the ground running technically, but who also brings the right attitude and energy to the team. You will thrive in this role if you:
- Have demonstrable experience building and shipping real systems, tools, or applications
- Are comfortable working across the full stack — from database and API through to front-end UI
- Think in systems: you naturally consider how things connect, depend on each other, and can break
- Are a genuine team player — collaborative, communicative, and not precious about your work
- Take ownership of problems and see them through to resolution without needing to be chased
- Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues
- Are intellectually curious and stay current with tools, techniques, and emerging technologies
- Have a keen eye for quality — clean code, tidy UIs, and well-documented systems
A degree in Computer Science or a related field is useful but not essential. What matters most is a demonstrable track record of building things and a mindset that fits their team.
Apply now to Leep Talent and we will review your application. If you are suitable for the role, we will be in contact to discuss this opportunity.
