The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 set requirements for water fittings and systems connected to the public water supply in England and Wales. They are intended to help prevent contamination and the waste, misuse and undue consumption of water.

Water Regulations training is particularly relevant to plumbers, heating engineers, gas engineers, bathroom and kitchen installers, water company contractors and maintenance professionals who work with water systems connected to the public supply.

There isn't a single qualification that every plumber must hold simply to carry out plumbing work. However, demonstrating knowledge of the Water Regulations can be a requirement for certain approved plumber, competent person and other registration schemes.

Gas engineers who carry out work involving water systems may need Water Regulations training, particularly where it forms part of the requirements for a particular registration, certification or further qualification. Check the requirements of the relevant scheme before booking.

The course takes one day to complete. 

The course is delivered at Leep Trade, Unit 10 Newby Road Industrial Estate, Stockport, SK7 5DA. 

The course covers interpretation and definitions, materials and substances, design and installation requirements, backflow and contamination prevention, hot and cold water systems, flushing devices and internal and external sanitary appliances.

Water Regulations training can be a requirement for joining certain approved plumber and competent person schemes.

However, individual schemes may have additional requirements, so you should check the specific requirements of the organisation you intend to join.

Completing Water Regulations training does not automatically give you the right to self-certify all plumbing or water-fitting work. Self-certification depends on the relevant approved contractor or competent person scheme and its requirements.

The course currently costs £215 + VAT per person. A deposit of £64.50 can be paid when booking, with the remaining balance due 21 days before the course start date. 

The course is designed for people with relevant plumbing, gas, heating or trade experience. Plumbers must hold a minimum Level 2 plumbing qualification.
