ACS gas qualifications are normally renewed every five years through ACS reassessment. Engineers complete updated assessments to demonstrate continued competence in domestic gas safety, regulations and appliance work. The Domestic ACS Assessment Package includes reassessment options for qualifications such as the CCN1 qualification, CPA1, CENWAT and CKR1. 

 To become a domestic gas engineer, candidates typically need recognised gas training, practical industry experience and ACS qualifications. The CCN1 qualification is the core domestic gas safety certification required before progressing onto appliance qualifications such as CENWAT and CKR1. Engineers must also meet the requirements for Gas Safe registration. 

 The Domestic ACS Assessment Package includes core domestic gas safety assessments and appliance qualifications commonly required for domestic gas engineers. This typically includes the CCN1 qualification, CPA1, CENWAT and CKR1 assessments covering gas safety, combustion, ventilation, pipework and domestic gas appliances. 

 The duration of ACS reassessment depends on the qualifications being renewed and the engineer’s existing certifications, including the CCN1 qualification and appliance modules. The Domestic ACS Assessment Package generally takes between 3 and 5 days to complete, including both training and assessments. 

 ACS qualifications are one of the main requirements for joining the Gas Safe Register. Engineers must hold the relevant ACS certifications, including the CCN1 qualification, for the categories of gas work they intend to carry out. Additional registration and business requirements may also apply. 

 Initial ACS qualifications are designed for candidates completing ACS assessments for the first time after training and supervised experience. This often begins with the CCN1 qualification before progressing to appliance-specific assessments. ACS reassessment is intended for already qualified gas engineers who need to renew existing certifications before they expire to remain Gas Safe compliant. 

 The CCN1 qualification is the core domestic gas safety qualification covering areas such as gas safety legislation, combustion, ventilation, pipework, tightness testing, purging and unsafe situations procedures. The CCN1 qualification forms the foundation for many domestic ACS appliance qualifications and Gas Safe registration requirements. 

 CENWAT covers domestic central heating boilers, water heaters, warm air heaters and circulators. CKR1 covers domestic gas cooking appliances such as cookers and hobs. These assessments are commonly taken alongside the CCN1 qualification to demonstrate competence in domestic gas appliance work. 

 Yes, the Domestic ACS Assessment Package is designed for experienced domestic gas engineers who need to renew ACS qualifications through reassessment. This includes renewing the CCN1 qualification and appliance certifications to maintain compliance with current gas safety standards and continue Gas Safe registration. 

 CPA1 focuses on combustion performance analysis and flue gas testing for domestic gas appliances. The assessment covers safe appliance operation, combustion efficiency and the correct use of flue gas analysers during servicing and maintenance work. CPA1 is commonly completed alongside the CCN1 qualification and other ACS gas assessments.
